On Friday, the Japan Times reported the Okinawa Prefectural Government will file a lawsuit with the central government looking to block continuing work on a contentious US Marine facility.

In the specifics of the suit, the local officials are concerned that planned coastal rock demolition will damage the seabed where fishing rights have been granted. They say the central government has acted illegally by not securing proper local permits.

In general however, the US military is not well-received on Okinawa, and many residents would prefer the bases to be removed altogether.
